MAPLE BLUFF AT A GLANCE

Maple Bluff Rises to the Top

Looking for homes in the top tier of Dane County? Look no further than the village of Maple Bluff. This .69-square-mile slice of land is located on the east side of Madison along Lake Mendota. Maple Bluffs is a picturesque residential community with streets lined with mature maple trees overlooking bluffs — thus its name. It’s where the upper crust settles to raise families in Madison.

Pricier Homes With a Little Age

Those moving to this upper to upper-middle-class enclave can expect to pay top dollar for homes. The average price for a property hovers around $600,000 and values seem to be rising steadily every year. Homes near the average price are pretty modest with the bulk of the value thanks to exclusive properties priced in the millions. Maple Bluff does have its share of lakeside homes that fit the “mansion” description. But don’t expect a new build, homes here were built in the 1950s or before and anything new was because something was knocked down.

Residential Bliss

There are no businesses in the village as everything caters to the homeowner. This includes activities, such as neighborhood parades and get-togethers during the Fourth of July. Included are watermelon- and pie-easting contests, decorated floats, and even a softball game of the north versus south Maple Bluff residents — the kind of unique village pastimes that earned the village its postcard-perfect image. Those moving to the village for its residential appeal do still have access to Madison businesses, which just a mile or so down the road.

The Hub of Residential Living

The Maple Bluff County Club is the heart of the community. It’s where the neighbors go to do everything from swimming to golfing to pumping a little iron. The club is the home of the only restaurant in the village and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Need a little variety in your dining options? No problem. Maple Bluff is nestled within the city and is surrounded by numerous eateries offering everything from pizza to sushi.

Neighbors of Stature

Maple Bluff is also the home of dignitaries including Wisconsin’s governor. He lives in a mansion in the village along the shores of Lake Mendota. Constructed in the 1920s for an industrialist, the state purchased the property in 1949 and the 16,000-square-foot property includes 34 rooms. The village has always been the home of the well-to-do, such as the Mayer family of Oscar Mayer fame. More recently, Maple Bluff is home to notables including pro golfer Jerry Kelly, who has been known to play at the local country club.

Maple Bluff Tranquility

The village is where the elite set down roots in Madison. This is where to go to grab a piece of the Norman Rockwell lifestyle!
