The community is flush with parks. It is said that one is but a five-minute walk away from the nearest outdoor refuge. In addition, there is active community engagement with a number of local events like WaunaBoom on the Fourth of July and WaunaFest, a four-day celebration with food, games, music, and a parade.

A Little History

Waunakeee had humble beginnings as a railroad town. A train from Madison to St. Paul was developed in the late 1800s, which resulted in settlers moving to the region. The Waunakee Railroad Depot in the center of town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the village was also visited by political figures in John F. Kennedy and the wife of the elder George Bush.
